Some biochemical and cytogenetic properties of rat thyroid tumors.

چکیده
the host thyroid. The tumors themselves showed extremely low incorporation, although thyroidectomy of the host significantly increased the incorporation in the tumors. However, results of incorporation experiments do not distinguish the transitional from the autonomous tumors. Tumor growth also caused iodide peroxidase activity in the host thyroid to decline. The enzyme activity in the transitional tumor approached the activity in normal thyroid. Thyroidectomy of the host, however, greatly reduced the enzyme activity in the tumor. By contrast, the autonomous tumor had no measurable peroxidase activity. Apparently, no correlation exists between the incorporation and the enzyme activity in the tumor, although both biochemical parameters are subject to the influence of the host thyroid. However, the results indicate that iodide peroxidase activity can serve as a more sensitive gauge to measure the progression of the thyroid tumor from a transitional to an autonomous stage than can 13 ' I incorporation.

Immunological and cytogenetic properties of developing thyroid tumors in the rat.
The dependent tumors exhibited minor chromosomal changes and thyroglobulin antigenicity similar to that of normal rat thyroid. The transitional tumors exhibited moderate chromosomal alterations and practically no thyroglobulin antigenicity. The autonomous tumors exhibited severe chromosomal alteration, numerically and/or structurally, and no detectable immunogenicity related to thyroglobulin. A...
متن کاملSequential cytogenetic changes in the evolution of transplanted thyroid tumors to metastatic carcinoma in the Fischer rat.
Inbred Fischer rats fed on an iodine-deficient diet for 16-22 months will develop goiters which will grow into tumors when transplanted subc-utaneously into the flanks of other Fischer rats. We have studied the biologic behavior, histology, and the chromosomes of 1-7 generations of ten lines ot these transplanted thyroid tumors and classified them into three categories: (a) Dependent tumors wit...
متن کاملLiquid Biopsy as a Minimally Invasive Source of Thyroid Cancer Genetic and Epigenetic Alterations
In the blood of cancer patients, some nucleic acid fragments and tumor cells can be found that make it possible to trace tumor changes through a simple blood test called “liquid biopsy”. The main components of liquid biopsy are fragments of DNA and RNA shed by tumors into the bloodstream and circulate freely( ctDNAs and ctRNAs). tumor cells which are shed into the blood (circulating tumor cells...
متن کاملConcurrence of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma and Hürthle Cell Carcinoma in an Iranian Woman with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
The most usual form of the endocrine carcinoma is thyroid cancer (TC). In addition to papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), recent studies revealed incidence of RET/PTC rearrangement in other tumors, like Hürthle cell carcinoma (HCC) and even in non-carcinomatous disorders like Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Here, we present a case with concurrence of papillary thyroid carcinoma and Hürthle cell carcino...
متن کاملCan previous thyroid scan induce cytogenetic radioadaptive response in patients treated by radioiodine for hyperthyroidism?
Background: Induction of radioadaptive responses in cells pretreated with a low dose radiation before exposure to a high dose is well documented by many investigators. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of chromosomal aberration in peripheral blood lymphocytes of patients treated by radioiodine (131I) for hyperthyroidism, with or without previous thyroid scan with 99mTc. Materi...
